Apple Detox Diet: Boost Your Health, Lose Weight and Prevent Chronic Diseases

You know what they say: “An apple a day keeps the doctor away”. Now multiply that by eating many apples for a day or two and you got yourself the healthiest, most effective detox diet ever.

The apple detox diet can help you boost your overall health, including the health of your digestive and immune system, lose excess weight (if that’s your goal), and even help in the prevention of many chronic diseases, including arthritis, diabetes, heart disease and hypertension.

Apples are highly nutritious, rich in soluble and insoluble fiber, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, but they’re low in calories. This makes them perfect for a detox diet – with their high fiber and water content, they help flush out the toxins, and with their high nutritional content, they help boost the health of every organ in the body.

How to Go About The Apple Detox Diet

You can follow the apple detox diet for a day or two, and the best way to do it is when you’re at home and able to relax. The weekends tend to work the best for most people.

Before you start the diet, take one or two days days (Thursday and Friday, if you’re planning to follow the diet on weekend) as preparation days: cut down on caffeine if you’re drinking coffee, stop drinking alcohol and eating all processed foods. Eat lots of fresh fruits and veggies, soups and easy to digest foods.

Buy high-quality organic apples and do not peel them at any point during your detox diet. The apple skin is rich in pectin, and we want as much soluble fiber as possible.

The Recipes

First, you want to make an apple juice that you can drink throughout the day. Start by washing the apples and finding the blender.

  • Cut two to three apples in small pieces (do not peel them!) and put them in a blender.
  • Add a little bit of water and the juice of ½ lemon.
  • Grate one inch-sized fresh ginger and add it to the mixture.
  • Blend

Tip: if you want a sweeter taste, add one teaspoon of honey to the apple juice and mix well.

For breakfast and lunch, eat fresh apples – as much as you want. For dinner, you can do the same or make raw apple puree and eat it spiced with cinnamon or cardamom. During the detox diet, drink as much water as you want and also add herbal teas to your menu – chamomile, hibiscus, sage, peppermint and rose hip tea can all be drunk during this time.
